1:00 – 1:45                    PLEX - What to look forward to in 2005

                                                Bill Hunt – AllFusion Plex Product Manager, Computer Associates

An overview of the upcoming AllFusion Plex 5.5 SP1, which will not only contain the usual fixes that you would expect to see in a service pack release, but also some new product enhancements primarily on the Java side.  A "Plex state of the union" will be provided as well to provide an overall picture of Plex at CA, plus exciting developments such as the expansion of Plex user groups into other regions of the US and other upcoming opportunities.

 

1:45 – 2:00                    Adding advanced searching technology to Plex applications

                                    Kevin Davis – Firehorse Investments

Kevin will share two advanced searching methods developed in Plex to search phonetically using the Soundex Algorithm to search customer names.  The second search will find the distance between two zip codes using the “The Great Circle Route Calculation” and the longitude and latitude associated the zip code.  Presentation will include background about the algorithms used, the Plex code to make it happen and screen capture videos to see it in action.

 

 


2:00 – 2:45                    Software Delivery - The Ada County Way.

                                                Joe Berg – Ada County.

Ada County will discuss the process the County employs when deploying Plex applications to the Desktop.  Presentation will focus on how version changes and minor updates have been automated from within the County's Plex Standards Layer.  The County will also discuss some of the issues involved in deploying for .NET.

3:00 – 3:45                    Building Multi Platform Applications with Plex

This presentation will give a high level overview how Computer Arts uses All Fusion Plex to build multiple platform client server applications, from a single design, running in the native environments.  The true power of Plex is enables you to build an application at a high level of abstraction, and generate that application in a variety of languages, for a variety of platforms.  Roger will show how they have leveraged Plex to deliver their entire suite of applications for the iSeries, as well as Windows Servers (Backoffice), and achieve 100% parity of these platforms.  You will not want to miss this session!

4:00 – 4:45                    Software Delivery – The Computer Arts Way. 

Paul Lapp – Software Delivery Specialist, Computer Arts, Inc.

                                                Roger Griffith – Vice President, Computer Arts, Inc.

This session will show how Computer Arts uses Unicenter Software Delivery (from Computer Associates) to deploy their suite of applications to over 30 counties, 31 Law Enforcement Agencies, 3000+ desktops throughout the state of Idaho and Oregon.  Paul will demonstrate how CAI installs their suite of software, and has automated the entire configuration setup, from INI files, Data Sources, Registry entries, ActiveX Controls, the works.  This deployment architecture covers the entire spectrum of the application, from the Client Desktop, to the Windows Server components, to the iSeries Server.  If you have software, and have a need to install your software, and manage updates, you will not want to miss this presentation.
